audio_scripter

A real-time scriptable audio effect plug-in whose small language runs once per sample and can be reloaded without recompiling or restarting the host.

2026

audio_scripter is available as VST3, Audio Unit and standalone software. Scripts read stereo input samples, maintain state, use digital signal-processing (DSP) functions and write stereo output samples; pressing Apply replaces the running script without a compilation step.

The implementation includes lock-free script swapping, automatable parameters, a parser and validator, and a library of conventional and experimental audio effects.

The available implementation is an experimental baseline (0.0.13), not a stable production plug-in or backwards-compatible language. The project separates research on the programming language from the JUCE/VST3/AU host in which it currently runs.

The language manual documents the precise sample-processing semantics. Research notes and known limitations are available in the public source.
