Low cost digital lutherie
Abstract
This paper examines digital lutherie from the position of artists who do not have ready access to expensive proprietary technologies. It argues that access to the medium is a precondition for technological appropriation and describes low-cost, open, and adaptable approaches to constructing digital musical instruments, connecting instrument design with artistic autonomy and the geopolitical conditions of production.
