Ribbons: A live cinema instrument
Abstract
This paper presents Ribbons, a real-time visual instrument designed to maximise performer expressiveness. It questions the flat rectangle as the default image space by constructing a virtual three-dimensional environment in which recorded and live footage can be projected, navigated, and deconstructed. Its design is organised around playability versus autonomy, expressiveness versus narrative, and the application of human-computer interaction and digital-lutherie principles to live cinema.
