The Perceptual Cloud
Abstract
This paper introduces the perceptual cloud, a human-computer interaction paradigm produced by the functional and geographical decoupling of an interactive system’s computational and perceptual layers. It examines how interaction changes when sensing, processing, representation, and action no longer need to occupy the same device or place, and considers the resulting design implications for distributed interactive experiences.
