Memoirs of the Blind
Abstract
Memoirs of the Blind presents a screen showing a still black-and-white face with closed eyes. When a visitor blinks, a camera captures their face and replaces the displayed portrait with the new image. The installation reverses the usual relation between viewer and viewed, making the act of looking a source of biometric capture and prompting reflection on surveillance and its aesthetic normalisation.
