Memoirs of the Blind: Surveillance, Speed, and Interaction
Abstract
Memoirs of the Blind is an interactive installation that displays a black-and-white face with closed eyes and replaces it with a processed image of each participant captured at the instant they blink. The work transforms an imperceptible human moment into a machine-significant event, using surveillance and computer vision to examine power asymmetries, the participant’s simultaneous position as subject and object, and the difference between human and machine time.
