Abandoned Fictions (2024) reflects on Uruguay’s mid-twentieth-century industrialisation, and specifically on the import-substitution model pursued under Luis Batlle Berres (1947–1951, 1955–1956), which produced real social progress before its industries declined under structural and global market pressure.
