Capturing Collective Memories of the Disappeared with Artificial Intelligence
Abstract
This paper presents a computational memorial project concerned with people who were forcibly disappeared during Uruguay’s dictatorship. It examines how artificial intelligence can work with dispersed photographs and collective memory without claiming to restore absent persons, and discusses the technical, ethical, and representational problems involved in constructing images from incomplete and politically charged archives.
