Provenance Granularity and Executable Constraints in a Fragment-Based Computational Memorial
Summary
Desaparecidos.uy assembles memorial portraits from fragments of contemporary people, places and street imagery. This paper examines a problem encountered in that process: a rule intended to diversify sources can appear to succeed while still allowing one original image to dominate the result. It develops records linking each fragment to its source, placement histories and checks on which combinations are possible, making the image’s construction available for inspection without treating those technical conditions as proof of consent or memorial value.
