Computational Cadavre Exquis

An exquisite-corpse text experiment that chains sentences drawn from different books and public text collections, showing where each sentence comes from.

Computational Cadavre Exquis constructs an exquisite corpse from found sentences. Starting with a chosen sentence, the software locates a source containing it, appends the next sentence, and then searches for that new sentence in a different source. Each assembled passage appears continuous while moving between distinct authored texts.

The available text collections include Wikisource, Wikipedia, Internet Archive, Wikinews, Wikivoyage, Library of Congress newspapers and the snippets available through Google Books. Hovering over a sentence reveals its source, and clicking it opens the original text. The artwork runs entirely in the browser, and its results depend on the current availability of the selected public collections.

The experiment remains in development; each passage depends on what its sources return at the time of composition.
